Islington and North London's Best International Food Stores

Whether you’re new to the UK and missing a sense of home, or you simply love the taste of exotic dishes, you may find that sourcing authentic ingredients may be hard in the average supermarket.

So, to help you on your way to culinary artistry, here is a roundup of some of the best international food markets and shops in Islington and surrounding North London.

Le Petit Village – 142 Liverpool Road, N1 1LA

A charming café and deli combo, Le Petit Village sells a vast selection of French cheeses, cold cooked meats, oils and preserves, among the usual array of fresh fruit and vegetables. All products here are great quality and quite good value for money.

Make sure to stop by for lunch on-the-go, washed down with one of their delicious coffees.

The Food Hall – 22-24 Turnpike Lane, N8 0PS

Fancy something a little different? Then why not pay a visit to the Ethiopian hub that is The Food Hall. This popular shop stocks freshly milled flour (rice, millet and maize) perfect for traditional sour injera flatbread, as well as a vast array of spices such as grains of paradise. Popular items include the coffee and spice butter.

Yasar Halim – 386-390 Green Lanes, N13 5PD

One of the largest world foods stores on this list, Yasar Halim is a sprawling Turkish shop with market-like stalls that spill out onto the street in front. Passersby are lured in by the bright colours of fresh produce, sweet smells of pastries and fresh breads and deli buckets full of olives.

Yasar Halim has been a prominent face in Green Lanes since 1981 and is known for its delicious baklava and adana flatbreads.

Andreas Michli – 405-411 St Ann’s Road, N15 3JL

Mr Michli, the famously moustached owner of this store, has been bringing the flavours of Cyprus to the streets of London for years. Pay a visit to his mismatched, eclectic shop in Green Lanes for everything from yellow dates and black-eyed peas, to ceramic cooking pots and souvenirs.

Andreas Michli is a different kind of farm shop, selling fresh fruit and vegetables imported from his Cypriote farm and his family’s land in Hertfordshire. If you like to know where your food comes from, this is the place to source it.
